Full Description
July 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of an enclosure ditch, probably of post medieval date, and possible pits are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred around TG 3740 3144. The enclosure is rectangular and lies immediately to the west of High House. It is defined by a ditch cropmark on its south and west sides, with its east side formed by an extant boundary. No evidence of its northern side is visible. The enclosure measures at least 40m long by 27m wide. Although its position adjacent to High House suggests that it is of probably of post medieval date, it does not appear on the 1834 Happisburgh tithe map (S2) or later maps. To the south of the enclosure are a group of cropmarks of six possible pits. These are sub-circular to sub-oval in shape and measure up to nearly 4m long. Their date and function is unknown. However, it is possible that they may be extraction pits or possibly even natural features.
