Full Description
August 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of ditch defined rectilinear enclosures, possibly an Iron Age to Roman farmstead are visible on aerial photographs (S1). This site was previously recorded as part of NHER 21774. A group of up to three rectilinear enclosures are present on a north to south alignment centred on TG35842970. The central enclosure is the most complete, measuring at least 35m by 37m with an internal sub-division extending most of the way across from its southern side. Three gaps are visible in the ditch in the southwest corner of this enclosure, some or all of which may represent entrances. A second incomplete enclosure lies to the south and measures 42m by at least 40m. Parallel ditches along part of the western side of this enclosure suggest a possible associated trackway. A ditch extending north from the central enclosure suggests that a third enclosure may have been present in this direction. Although incomplete the form of these cropmarks suggests a possible Iron Age or Roman farmstead. These enclosures cannot be clearly related to the surrounding ditch and incomplete enclosure cropmarks (NHER 21774).
(S1).
