Summary

A possible bank, perhaps the remains of a post-medieval field boundary or garden feature, may be visible as a low earthwork on aerial photographs. The L-shaped feature appears to fit into the pattern of fields shown on historic Ordnance Survey maps and seems unlikely to date to any earlier than the post-medieval period. It is perhaps a field or garden boundary, or a product of landscaping within the grounds of Northrepps Hall.

Map

July 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A possible earthwork bank may be visible on aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and possibly also on aerial photographs from 1963 (S2), centred at TG 2302 3975. Since it seems to fit into the field pattern depicted on historic Ordnance Survey maps (S3) there is no reason to suppose that it pre-dates the post-medieval period. It is most likely to be a boundary or landscaping feature associated with the grounds of Northrepps Hall (NHER 13146). It should be noted, however, that it is visible only as a very slight earthwork, and its height could just be illusion created by the surrounding vegetation and shadows.

The bank measures nearly 30m wide. (S1-3)
