Map

September 2004. Norfolk NMP.
World War Two barbed wire defences and pillboxes are visible on contemporary and later aerial photographs ((S1) to (S5)). These defences were centred around TG 3868 3079. Two parallel lines of barbed wire extended along the cliff top to the southeast of the former gun battery (NHER 32636) in 1941 (S2). A further area of barbed wire extended from TG 3868 3079 to TG 3877 3059 towards a pillbox (NHER 15918). The full extent of both of these barbed wire defences is uncertain due to them lying at the limit of the 1941 aerial photograph coverage. In 1943 a further area of barbed wire extended along the south side of Beach Road before turning to the southwest (S3). A possible type 22 pillbox was located on the cliff top at TG 38895 30675 and is visible on 1940 aerial photographs (S1). A circular pillbox, possibly a type 25, was located adjacent to Beach Road at TG 38480 30880. This pillbox was only clearly visible on 1946 and 1952 aerial photographs ((S4) to (S5)).
