Map

October 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two military training area is visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs (S1-2). The site is located on the western side of Bacton Wood around TG 30913077. Areas of disturbed soil are faintly visible on April 1946 aerial photographs (S1). Some of these may represent weapons pits and other features that had already been backfilled. These features are not clearly visible on July 1946 aerial photographs, having become partly overgrown by that date (S2). It is likely that this is a military training area, possibly associated with the camp to the south (NHER 38819) and other areas of weapons pits to the east and southeast (NHER 38821, 38822). Due to the disturbed condition of the features at this site, only the extent of area has been mapped for the NMP.
