Map

October 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of undated banks and ditches are visible on aerial photographs in Bacton Wood and on Witton Heath (S1-2). Linear banks and ditches are present in an area centred on TG 31543089. A number of the linear banks follow the line of modern boundaries but could be earlier in date. Some of these features have previously been recorded during field survey (NHER 39749). The earthworks are mainly visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs when woodland cover across this area was sparse. The dense tree cover on most subsequent aerial photographs prevents identification of further features. A small group of banks arranged parallel and perpendicular to each other are located at TG 31343075. The date and function of these features is uncertain, although it is possible that they have a medieval to post medieval origin.
