Map

October 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A pair of possible World War Two small gun emplacements or weapons pits are visible as earthworks on the edge of the football ground, Cromer. The site is centred on TG 2233 4141, although the earthworks are 35m apart. The earthworks both consist of roughly oval pits, 4 to 5m long by 2 to 3m wide, surrounded by a narrow bank, open to the southwest. Further hollows (not mapped) may indicate similar features in the rough ground on the edge of the pitch. These earthworks have the appearance of gun pits for a light machine gun or weapons pits. Given the location and the lack of other military features it is likely that these earthworks were dug as part of home guard training exercises.
S. Massey (NMP), 28 October 2004.
