Full Description
November 2004. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two type 22 pillbox and associated rectangular structure is visible on aerial photographs on the edge of the Cromer Golf Links, located on the edge of the cliffs at Overstrand (S1-4). This type 22 pillbox appears to be under construction in August 1940 (S1), and is heavily camouflaged during 1941-2 (S2-3). By 1941 a rectangular hut has been constructed to the immediate south, measuring 5m by 2m. The pillbox has been demolished by December 1946 (S5). This pillbox formed part of a much wider area of World War Two coastal defences and a military training area on the Cromer Golf Links (NHER 38940, 38945).
The site is centred on TG 2437 4116 and the central grid reference for the pillbox is TG 2437 4117.
