Summary

In 2004 a skeleton was uncovered during the building of a garden shed at the property here. The bones were contained within a box and showed the individual to be in a flexed position. However, further investigation showed the bones belonged to an animal and that this was liekly a mid 20th century pet burial.

20 Oct 2004. Visit in torrential rain at request of Norfolk police to see skeleton uncovered during building of garden shed. Houses built c 1900 on former cricket field to east of Norwich cemetery.
Bones of flexed individual at depth of 1m in pit cut into clayey natural. Fill of pit, black soil with occasional brick fragments. Bones identified as animal by F. Boghi (NAU).
Due to recent date and position which would have meant demolishing the shed if further excavation took place, no further work was carried out. Probably mid 20th century pet burial.
