Map

December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of an undated, probably Roman to medieval, field system and other field boundary ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1-3). These cropmarks are centred around TG 3017 3262. A northwest to southeast and southwest to northeast aligned field system is visible as a series of intermittent ditch cropmarks. The fragmentary nature of these cropmarks makes it difficult to determine the size of individual fields, but a partial one which crossees over the road at TG 3015 3258 appears to be 160m wide. The fact that these field boundaries cross the road, which is marked on Faden’s 1797 map (S4), and the parish boundary suggest that they are likely to be of Roman to Saxon, or possibly medieval, date. The alignment of the field system is similar to the enclosures to the southeast (NHER 34544), a trackway and enclosures to the northeast (NHER 39010) and a partial field system to the east (NHER 39017). Other isolated ditch cropmarks of unknown date are present within the group.
