NHER 41038 (Building record) - The Cottage, King Street

February 1984. Listed, Grade II.
One of a range of three timber framed houses dating to the late 17th century, refronted in brick in the early 19th century. Pantiled roof with black glazed pantiles to rear.

November 2003. Building survey.
This two bay cottage appears to be a rare timber-framed survival from the eighteenth century, perhaps because of the buildings either side giving additional support. It was altered in the nineteenth century with brick cladding and sash windows. The area to the rear was probably developed at a later date.

This is not documented until 1858 when it is described as a dwelling house and a shoemaker's shop.
