Full Description
December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of a trackway and field boundary ditches of medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3204 3417. Cropmarks of a ditch defined road or trackway are present on a southwest to northeast alignment. It extends for a distance of 120m between TG 3193 3416 and TG 3201 3426 turning towards the east at its northeastern end. The road or track is indicated by a 3.5m wide negative cropmark, representing a compacted or metalled surface. This cropmark probably relates to a trackway shown on the 1841 Paston tithe map (S2). Extending to the northwest from the northwestern ditch flanking the road is a field boundary ditch cropmark. A similar ditch extends to the southeast from the northeastern end of the road. This ditch forms the axis for a number of fields defined by southwest to northeast aligned ditches running parallel to the road. These field boundary ditches are not shown on the tithe map (S2), but are probably medieval to early post medieval in date.
