Full Description
December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks of probable post medieval boundary banks and ditches are visible on aerial photographs on Newman’s Hill, Cottage Woods, Northrepps (S1). These are likely to define former divisions and woodland belts and possibly also paths through the woods. Other banks and ditches are visible running through Cottage Wood, although the path of these is consistent with those depicted on S2 and were therefore not mapped by the NMP.
The site is centred on TG 2362 4066 although the two earthwork components are 120m apart. An earthwork bank runs from TG 2361 4072 to TG 2367 4072. This follows the line of one of the paths through the area and therefore may not be of any great antiquity, although it may mark former divisions and woodland belts. To the south of this is an earthwork ditch running from TG 2360 4058 to TG 2362 4059. This is also likely to mark a woodland boundary.
