NHER 38332 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Undated earthwork banks, mounds and ditches

There is evidence of some earthworks (banks/mounds and ditches) in the area of Back Common (and to the west of St Mary’s Priory) in Sheringham. This can be seen on Hunting survey aerial photographs from 1969 (S1) and Ordnance Survey images from 1967 (S2). It is possible to divide these earthworks into three groups. Although most of the features within the northern and southeastern most groups have been plotted, extent of areas have also been drawn around them as there is the possibility of a few other less clear features within these areas. (The other area is much smaller and all the visible features have been mapped). The three groups of earthworks are centred on NGRs TG1641 4302, TG 1641 4291 and TG1653 4284. They are respectively (approximately) 150m by 65m, 77m by 19m and 81m by 68m in size. (The whole area is centred on NGR TG1645 4292 and covers an area of 300m by 130m).
(The area that ‘separates’ these three patches is built over.)
The date and origin of these features are uncertain.
