Full Description
December 2003. Norfolk NMP.
A group of World War Two huts and structures around the clubhouse on Sheringham golf course, is visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1941 (S1) and 1946 (S2). It seems likely that these huts, some of which are likely to be nissens, provided accommodation to the troops that were stationed in Sheringham and created and worked the defensive positions along the coastal strip of the golf course.
To the south of the site are a group of three huts centred on TG 1525 3215, all measuring 12m by 4.5m. A pair of huts have also been positioned along side the road, centred on TG 1512 4323. Another two huts are located to the north of the clubhouse, centred on TG 1505 4329. To the south of this on the RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S2) is a rectangular area of hard standing where a further structure once stood, measuring 11m by 6m, with an entrance to the north. At TG 1510 4330 is a 9m long L shaped building, to the immediate north of this is a small rectangular structure measuring 4.5m by 3m. Also within this area are two short sections of slit trench or practice trench, centred on TG 1511 4329. A further hut is located to the east along side the field boundary at TG 1516 4333.
