Full Description
December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Two probable slit trenches are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1-3), centred at TG 1984 4211. These rather isolated earthworks, which appear to be recently constructed on photographs taken in 1940 (S1), seem most likely to represent military training rather than strategic defence. A circular or polygonal structure, visible at TG 3149 3573 on photographs taken between 1946 and 1968 (e.g. S3-4), could be a pillbox, but its location (surrounded by farm buildings) and its long survival indicate that an agricultural function is more likely. The trenches are not visible on recent aerial photographs and have presumably been levelled.
