Map

December 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of medieval to early post medieval field boundaries and a possible road or trackway are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3924 2954 and were previously recorded as part of NHER 11877. The main axis of these field boundaries is a northwest to southeast aligned ditch between TG 3905 2953 and TG 3912 2946. This ditch appears to continue the line of a medieval to post medieval road further to the northwest (NHER 38743). However the road is not shown to continue this far on Faden's 1797 map (S2) and appears to follow its modern route west of Mill Farm. It is likely that this ditch represent a medieval to post medieval field boundary contemporary with the road to the northwest and possibly even the line of an earlier course of the road. Ditches aligned parallel and perpendicular to this northwest to southeast ditch are probably contemporary field boundaries. These field boundaries had disappeared by 1834 and are not shown on the Happisburgh tithe map (S3).
