Full Description
January 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two roadblock is visible either as linear marks across Paston Road or as slightly raised structures on aerial photographs taken in 1941 (S1-2), centred at TG 3154 3620. The photographs are not clear enough to allow a definite interpretation of the form of the roadblock, but the four parallel white lines which make up the block might mark the sockets for anti-tank rails, either bent or straight. Its form is similar to that of a contemporary roadblock (NHER 39180) located 760m to the north-west. Both sites might have been constructed purely as anti-tank obstacles for use in the event of an invasion, but they could also have been used to control the movement of both military personnel and civilians in and out of the heavily defended stronghold of Mundesley. No evidence of the roadblock is visible on later aerial photographs.
