Full Description
January 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of undated ditches, possibly field boundaries, are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3249 3197. A total of five sections of ditch cropmark are present in this group. A linear ditch extends for 134m on a southwest to northeast alignment between TG 3237 3195 and TG 3245 3206. A 2m wide angled ditch is located at TG 3245 3193. It is possible that this forms the corner of an enclosure , but it is too fragmentary to be certain. Another ditch on a parallel alignment lies 65m to the southeast. A T-shaped arrangement of ditches on a slightly different alignment is present at TG 3260 3199. It is likely that all of these ditches are field or enclosure boundaries, However their alignment does not correspond with the post medieval field pattern. It is likely that they pre-date the laying out of Witton Park in this area in 1770 (S2).
