NHER 40888 (Building record) - Old Butchers

(S1) notes these as a former range of five cottages dated to 17th to 18th century. Plastered, pantile roof. Two storeys. Brick chimneys, three 19th century doors. (S2) suggest the building was timber framed and of a three cell plan. The main stack has a 'parlour' fireplace one side and a large fireplace on the other - first floor fireplace above latter alone - with original winding stair to the east. Later winding stairs to southwest of stack and in south cell which has gable stack. This seems to confirm a 17th century house converted to three cottages at a later date, though where the other two cottages of the five were is hard to judge.
