May 2003. Building survey.
This house is of unusual design in that the ground floor is semi-subterranean and the principal floor is approached by a double flight of stone steps. The building is of brick under a pantiled roof, and has a central pediment above the front door. The general design is of a piano nobile above a basement in a provincial version of a Palladian model.
See report (S2) and photographs in file.
A. Cattermole (NLA), 2 February 2005.
Following a visit by E Rose NLA in 1990 the house was judged to be of around 1780 probably incorporating the core of an older building. A stable retaining original fittings was adjacent.
See report (S3) in file.
