Map

February 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two pillbox and enclosing strip of barbed wire is visible on aerial photographs protecting the beach access at Waxham Sands (S1 to 3). Further pillboxes and military defences are located to the landward side, along the path through the dunes (NHER 27247, 27252).

The site is centred on TG 4551 2529, which is also the location of the pillbox. The pillbox appears to be a type 22. Although it cannot be seen clearly on any of the available aerial photographs, the half of the structure that is not buried in 1946 appears to be polygonal. The barbed wire that surrounds the seaward side of the pillbox covers approximately 190m of the seafront (S1-2). This has been removed by 1946 (S3).
