Map

February 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A possible World War Two slit trench is visible on aerial photographs cutting across the earthworks of an earlier trackway on the Marram Hills, Waxham Sands (S1). The site is centred on TG 4550 2500 and the possible trench runs from TG 4552 2503 to TG 4550 2498. This earthwork has a relatively zigzag plan, although the angles are quite rounded, when compared with other military trenches mapped by the NMP. Also, other than two possible semi-buried military defences (NHER 27246 and 7) to the north and two extremely suspect structures to the immediate west (NHER 27251) there are no other obvious evidence of military training or defensive fieldworks. It is therefore possible that this feature is not World War Two trench and may represent a relatively sinuous and modern ditched feature on the dunes.
