Full Description
February 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Several linear features are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-4), centred at TG 4594 1640. They have been mapped as ditches but it is difficult to be certain about how some of the cropmarks are showing, and it is possible that the two longer features are defined by banks, with or without a parallel ditch. The features are undated. Their orientation seems to be at odds with the pattern of enclosure depicted on historic maps (e.g. S5), suggesting that they may be boundary ditches that pre-date the late post-medieval field boundaries shown across the area. However, in the absence of any other dating evidence, the possibility that the mapped features represent drainage features or even minor trackways of any date up to the modern period cannot be discounted.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 23 February 2005.
