Full Description
February 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A circular mound or platform, together with the fragmentary remains of a probable external ditch, is visible as a negative cropmark on aerial photographs (S1) and (S2), centred at TG 4696 1613. In the absence of other evidence, the site is difficult to interpret, but it is feasible that it represents the remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, a medieval to post medieval windmill mound or even a stack stand. At the same time, the possibility that the cropmarks are caused by an agricultural feature of relatively modern origin cannot be ruled out. Other cropmarks visible in the surrounding area on the same aerial photographs are probably of agricultural and geological origin.
The mound is roughly circular in shape and measures 30m in diameter. The external ditch may measure up to 41m in diameter.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 25 February 2005.
