One building, L plan. Two storeys, rear outshuts. Red brick, slate roofs. Main block six bays with double shop window with pilasters. To the right windows alternate with doors below blank windows. East wing two bays, door to right, sash windows. Doorcase with pilasters and cornice. Shallow buttress. Three axial stacks hipped roofs, moulded timber eaves.
No dating is given but the description sounds late 18th/early 19th century.
Information from (S1).
E. Rose (NLA), 28 February 2005.
The matter is further complicated by the fact that the post office has been listed twice; once under Church Hill and once under Market Place. It appears the above description includes the section of the post office at the end of the north to south block; the section listed as in Market Place is the projection to the west which is described as late 18th century red brick, seven bays on two storeys; 20th century shop, sash windows at first floor: string course below parapet, hipped roof.
E. Rose (NLA), 22 March 2005.
