Map

April 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of a rectilinear field system and structures of unknown, possibly post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-3). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3123 3248. A series of west to east aligned field boundary ditches are present. These are aligned parallel to the modern field boundaries, but only some are marked on the Edingthorpe enclosure and later maps (S4). The cropmark fields are subdivided by north to south aligned ditches. It is likely that that they are of early post medieval date. In the northeastern corner of this group of fields is a rectangular positive cropmark that measures approximately 7m by 11m. It is possible that it represents a large pit or the sunken floor of a structure. Further rectangular positive cropmarks representing smaller structures or pits are also present. The date of these pits or structures is uncertain. A ditch along their western side appears to join one of the west to east aligned field boundaries, suggesting that they may be contemporary with the field system. However, this relationship is not certain and they could be of an earlier unknown date.
