Map

October 2002. Norfolk NMP.
A wreck of uncertain date (most likely either late post medieval or early modern) can be seen on the western side of Long Hills, on Blakeney Point, at NGR TG0047 4600. It is clearly visible on CUCAP aerial photographs from 1968 (S1) and (S2) and 1955 (S3), RAF 1946 (S4) images and NLA 1988 obliques (S5).
A short distance to the southwest of this wreck another wreck is apparent at NGR TG0040 4589. It is visible in that location on CUCAP aerial photographs from 1955 onwards. However, it is not apparent on the RAF 1946 images. It is possible that the wreck was in existence before 1955, as it may have moved or been uncovered during the 1953 floods, but this is not certain. A boat/wreck of similar size and shape is visible on the long hills on RAF images from 1946, however it is at a slightly different location NGR TG0051 4597. It is possible that these are the same vessels, but that it has moved.
H. Clare (NMP),

May-November 2004. Norfolk Rapid Coastal Zone Archaeological Survey.
Inter-tidal survey (Environmental Zone 11).
Context 1018:
A wreck/hulk was found between TG 00470 46016 and TG 00483 46036 on a sand dune ridge. It measured 24m long by 4.5m wide and had a steel- ull with concrete panelling towards the prow. A member of the public told the survey team it was the 'Yankee' and that the sand dune was called 'Yankee Ridge' after it.
Context 1077:
A metal drum/cylinder was recorded loose amongst the dunes at TG 00505 45989. It measured 1.70m long with a diameter of 0.8m. It was more than likely a boiler from ship, probably wreck/hulk [context 1018, see above].
See NHER 41530.
See assessment report (S6) for further details.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.421).
