Map

May-November 2004. Norfolk Rapid Coastal Zone Archaeological Survey.
Inter-tidal survey (Environmental Zone 11), Context 1062:
On the southern edge of Morston saltmarsh were a bank and a ditch. The bank measured 1.75m wide by 0.75m high, whilst the ditch was 1.25m wide and 0.4m deep.
They were probably once field boundaries.
See assessment report (S1) for further details.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.421).
J. Allen (NLA), 20 April 2005. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 21 July 2019.

The bank and ditch continue the line of a field boundary located to the south. This field boundary appears on modern maps (S2), the Morston tithe map (S3) and the 1st edition 6 inch map (S4). The southern edge of the saltmarsh is in the same place on all three maps, suggesting that during the 19th century the area containing the bank and ditch were in the saltmarsh. If the bank and ditch were part of the field boundary they represent agricultural use of the saltmarsh prior to the 1830s (the date of (S3)).
D. robertson (NLA), 28 June 2006.
