Map

March 2003. Norfolk NMP.
A possible rectilinear ditched enclosure with an internal raised platform is visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1). A further ditch (which curves round at the northern end) can be seen running in an approximately northern direction from the enclosure’s north-west corner. The enclosure is approximately 50m (SW-NE) x 40m (SE-NW). The additional ditch with a curved northern end adds a further 40m to the SE-NW dimension and appears to enclose a slightly narrower area (perhaps 35m in width). There is also a possibility that the enclosure continues south into the adjacent wooded area, but this is not clear from the aerial photographs.
The date of these features is uncertain, as is the origin of them. It is possible that the ditches are actually just remains of drains, as they are located relatively near to the river, however, they are not marked on any maps and they do not really have the appearance of drains.
H. Clare (NMP), 24 April 2003.
