Map

May 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two pillbox is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs (S1) and (S2), centred at TG 5237 0723. Its hexagonal plan indicates that it is a Type 22 form. It is first visible on aerial photographs taken in 1944, on some of which, e.g. (S1) it is at least partially camouflaged by paint or nets. It is located on South Quay, overlooking the River Yare to its west. It is one of several anti invasion defences to protect this side of the river; to its north are structures defending Haven Bridge (NHER 27365), to its south another Type 22 pillbox (NHER 27364). More recent aerial photographs of the area indicate that the pillbox has been demolished.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 13 May 2005.
