Summary

Excavations in the 1980s revealed a flint road buried just under 1 metre of soil. The road was 2..44 metres wide. Its date is not known, but may be 18th century.

1980s. Excavation in garden of Grove Thorpe
Flint road 2.44m (8 feet) wide found 1m (3 feet) below surface, 3.66m (10 to 12 feet) north of present road and parallel to it.
Possibly an 18th century surface designed for use when road was flooded, this having been formerly Wash Lane.
