Norwich Road Chapel.

April 2005. Building Survey.
Survey of Norwich Road Methodist chapel prior to proposed demolition.
Built of red brick with white brick dressings and a black slate roof. Each elevation has four plain lancet windows in steel with splayed internal reveals. On the east side there is a chimney. The south or main elevation has four lancets, the centre two paired within an arched recess. There are five stone pinnacles on the south elevation. The original main entrance was removed when the chapel was converted into a shop and replaced with a glass front with two brick piers under an open porch roof. There is a stone plaque to the east of the shop front that has been rendered over and any lettering lost. The similar one on the west side has been removed and is still on site but there are no inscriptions. The north elevation is plain red brick with a chimney and a small lean to which is currently used as an office. Inside the main chapel area has a suspended ceiling with a ladder access to a modern loft. There are three arch braced roof trusses made of poor quality stained softwood with undecorated shields on the ends of the hammer beams, There is a dado with tongued and grooved and V jointed matchboards, also in softwood. There are no other original fittings. The building was constructed around 1901.
