Full Description
May-November 2004. Norfolk Rapid Coastal Survey.
Context 207:
Positioned in the channel in standing water.
Post alignment composed of twenty timber posts aligned east to west, in situ. Could be a former revetment or a wreck.
See assessment report (S1) for further details.
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.421).
J. Allen (NLA), 30 June 2005. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 21 July 2019.
May 2006. Norfolk NMP.
The remains of a post-built structure described above are almost certainly part of a wreck, which is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs (S2)-(S4), centred at approximately TG 5038 0746. The relatively intact state of the wreck suggests that it is probably late post-medieval or modern in date. It may have been placed (or abandoned) at this location to consolidate the southern edge of the Yare channel.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 31 May 2006.
