Summary

A group of World War Two air raid shelters is visible as a cluster of earth covered structures on 1940s aerial photographs. The location and relatively small size of the shelters suggests that they were used by people living in the surrounding houses. They are not visible on more recent aerial photographs and were probably levelled soon after the end of the war.

Map

July 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A group of World War Two air raid shelters is visible as three earth covered structures on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 5254 0831. Each has a curved, polygonal or parabola profile and may be a semi-sunken or surface structure. No entrances are visible but comparison with similar shelters mapped elsewhere in the town (e.g. NHER 27445) suggests these would have been at the short end (or ends) of each shelter. The two shorter shelters may be Anderson shelters. None of the group can be seen on more recent aerial photographs and they were probably levelled soon after the end of the war.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 12 July 2005.
