Full Description

See file for further information.

2004. Metal detecting and UEA Survey work.
Remains of rectilinear structure noted. These consist of local carstone foundations, presumably for a timber superstructure. Large numbers of objects, pottery sherds, animal bone and tesserae were found in association.
In response the UEA undertook an evaluation to define the structure within its immediate vicinity. During this investigation a range of pottery sherds and animal bone were recovered. A number of coins were found, including Iron Age as well as Roman period coins. The building was of Roman date, had plastered walls and a tessellated floor, although neither was found in situ. The structure bears a strong resemblance to a Romano-Celtic temple.
Information from Management Strategy Report, 12 June 2006.
See published report (S1) for further detail. See also draft report and specialist reports in file.
David Gurney (NLA), 22 June 2009. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 4 November 2019.
