Full Description
August 2005. Trial Trench.
Excavation of a single evaluation trench on proposed development site. Contexts 1-28 used.
Revealed several post or stake holes which may have formed part of the wall of a former building, perhaps fronting onto Bailey Street. These post holes were undated but are potentially of a relatively early date.
A brick floor and walls were also identified. Local knowledge and the retrieval of a barrel hoop during the investigation may indicate that these are the remains of a public house.
Artefacts were limited to late post medieval and modern items, including two late post medieval barrel hoops.
See report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2007.178).
