Full Description
October 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of linear ditches, possibly including field boundaries of medieval to post medieval date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1). These cropmarks are located at TG 4839 1432. A group of linear ditches are present to the northwest of Mill Lane. These are mainly arranged on a northwest to southeast and southwest to northeast alignment parallel to both the present course of the road and the post medieval field pattern. At the southwestern end of the group, two possible incomplete rectilinear enclosures are present. These measure between 33m and 45m wide by at least 29m long. To the northeast of these enclosures are further fields measuring 46m and 26m wide. It is likely that these ditches are field boundaries of medieval to early post medieval date. Ditches in the northeast of the group follow a less regular pattern and may indicate several different periods of activity. A curvilinear ditch extends on a northwest to southeast alignment between TG 4838 1438 and TG 4841 1429. This ditch appears to form one side of a group of incomplete enclosures of unknown date.
