Map

June 2003. Norfolk NMP.
Parchmarks in Sheringham Park visible on Ordnance Survey aerial photographs from 1967 (S1). The site consists of two parallel parched linears running from TG 1362 4253 to TG 1365 4253 and from TG 13620 42530 to TG 1365 4252. The longest linear is the southern one, measuring 40m long and 2m wide. To the immediate east is another set of parched linear, along the same alignment. These are visible from TG 1367 4252 to TG 1370 4252 and from TG 1367 4253 to TG 1370 4253. These are linked by a central perpendicular linear, forming an ‘H-shaped’ arrangement of parchmarks. There are also two narrower, parallel linears to the north. All of these parchmarks are on the same alignment as the existing walls of the post medieval kitchen garden and surrounding boundaries. It is possible that these features relate to another walled or banked garden feature or allotment.
S. Massey (NMP), 23 June 2003.
