Summary

A cropmark possibly representing a medieval trackway or an undated boundary bank, is visible on aerial photographs. The southern part follows a course similar to a footpath leading to Mautby Lodge that is marked on a late 19th century Ordnance Survey map. It is possible that this was a medieval or early post medieval track that partly survives as a footpath. Alternatively the cropmark could represent an earthwork boundary bank of unknown date.

Map

October 2005. Norfolk NMP.
A curvilinear negative cropmark, possibly representing a medieval trackway or an undated boundary bank, is visible on aerial photographs (S1). This cropmark is located at TG 4872 1279. A curvilinear feature extends on a roughly north to south alignment for 500m between TG 4857 1300 and TG 4876 1254. The southern section is up to 7m wide, while the northern part is less well defined. This linear feature crosses the line of the Filby and Mautby parish boundary. The southern part follows a course similar to a footpath leading to Mautby Lodge that is marked on the first edition 6" to the mile Ordnance Survey map (S2). It is possible that this was a medieval or early post medieval track that partly survives as a footpath. Alternatively the negative cropmark could represent an earthwork boundary bank of unknown date.
