Map

October 2003. Norfolk NMP.
A group of earthwork pits visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and 1955 (S2) within Weybourne Woods. The main cluster of over twenty pits is centred on TG 1267 4210. These range in size from 1-3.5m across. A smaller group is centred on TG 1256 4209. A linear group of pits is also visible running from TG 1248 4225 to TG 1254 4224. It is likely that these pits are iron workings, which are thought to date to the Late Saxon to Medieval period, although it is possible that this group of pits is the result of post medieval or even military activity in the area. The groups of pits to the immediate north appear to World War Two in date (NHER 38346).
