Map

November 2003. Norfolk NMP.
Two structures visible on summit of Muckleburgh Hill on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and 1950 (S2). The exact purpose of these structures is unknown, although it seems likely that they are World War Two and military in origin. One of these structures may be a pillbox. Many linear features are visible running up towards these structures on the top of the hill, which appear to be well-worn vehicle tracks. This would imply that the buildings were in regular use, probably as part of training or perhaps observation posts, due to their positioning on the summit.
The largest structure measures 3m square and is centred on TG 1009 4292. It is possible that this is a pillbox, although it seems quite small for a typical type 20. A smaller rectangular structure is situated 4m to the northeast, at TG 1009 4293. This structure measures 1.25m by 2m.
