Map

November 2003. Norfolk NMP.
A World War Two slit trench on Kelling Heath is visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1). The trench consists of a roughly oval circuit of zigzag trenches, 120m long and 1-1.5m wide, centred on TG 1020 4248. This cuts across an earlier World War Two trench that runs around the northern edge of the Heath (NHER 38375). Although these sites would have had a definite defensive purpose, it seems that they were mainly constructed as part of training exercises in association with Weybourne Camp to the north.
S. Massey (NMP), 18 November 2003.
