The World War Two earthworks of slit trenches and weapons pits are visible on RAF aerial photographs from 1946 (S1) and 1950 (S2). These features are likely to be related to training exercises on the heath. To the north of the site is a zigzag line of practice slit trench 64m long and running from TG 1021 4208 to TG 1026 4206. To the south is an alignment of three slit trenches, 4.5-6m apart, running from TG 1021 4205 to TG 1021 4203. These trenches are all 3m long and between 0.5-1m wide. Another two pits are visible located at TG 1021 4201, 3m by 1.5m and another at TG 1022 4205, 4m by 2m.
