Map

Earthworks of irregular banks of unknown, possibly medieval to post medieval, date are visible on aerial photographs (S1) and (S2). These earthworks are centred on TG 5117 1047 and lie a short distance to the north of the River Bure. An irregular earthwork bank, with a reversed P shaped plan is present. This measures up to 34m by 20m. The head of the ‘P’ forms a trapezoidal to sub-rectangular enclosure with internal dimensions of 9m by 7.5m. It is surrounded on three sides by a 2.5m wide bank with a broad platform on the remaining side. The function of this earthwork is not known, but it is possible that it is an enclosure or remains of a structure. Two sub-circular earthwork mounds with diameters of 4.5m are located immediately to the east of the possible enclosure. Their function is also unknown. However, given the location of these earthworks on the Bure marshland it is probable that they are of medieval to post medieval date.
