Full Description
November 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Inter tidal structures present in Breydon Water is visible on aerial photographs (S1) and (S2). This structure is centred on TG 4952 0742. Two parallel linear structures extend intermittently for 480m on a west southwest to north northeast alignment between TG 4930 0738 and TG 4977 0748. They are spaced between 20m and 27m apart. It is probable that they are timber structures but it is not possible to determine their exact construction. Their alignment and position is similar to that of the 'Duffol's Drain' marked on the second edition 25 inches to the mile Ordnance Survey map (S3). It is possible that these structures were revetments positioned along the edge of the channel to stabilise the mud flats on either side. These structures are only clearly visible on aerial photographs dating to June and July 1946 (S1) and (S2) and it is not known if any part of them survived after that date. It was not observed during the Norfolk Rapid Coastal Survey. A further linear inter tidal structure present 180m to the west may continue its alignment (NHER 42173).
J. Albone (NMP), 22 November 2005.
