Full Description
December 2005. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of irregular mounds, probably Late Saxon to medieval saltern mounds, are visible on aerial photographs (S1), (S2) and (S3). These mounds are located at TG 4572 0545. An irregular mound measuring 70m by 29m is centred on TG 4570 0546. It is roughly rectangular in plan with a higher rounded central area. Adjoining this mound from the southeast is a low curving mound aligned parallel to the modern drainage ditch to the northeast. A further, roughly triangular mound, is centred on TG 4572 0544. It is separated from the other mounds by earthworks of a section of possible channel. It is likely that these are saltern mounds of Late Saxon to medieval date. Other possible saltern mounds are located 100m to the south (NHER 41369) and 140m to the west (NHER 42212).
