Summary

An earthwork of a possible saltern mound of Late Saxon to medieval date is visible on aerial photographs. Other saltern mounds of this period are present across the marshland around Breydon Water, with the closest recorded 630m to the west (NHER 24208).

An earthwork of a possible saltern mound of late Saxon to medieval date is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4). This mound is located at TG 4746 0535 on marshland to the southeast of Breydon Water. The mound has an irregular sub-oval plan and measures up to 66m long by 35m wide. It appears to be cut on its western side by a modern drainage ditch. The top of the this mound is visible above the level of the flood water in February 1953 (S4). Other saltern mounds of this period are present across the marshland around Breydon Water, with the closest recorded 630m to the west (NHER 24208).
