Summary

Two areas of World War Two bomb damage and a later emergency water supply tank are visible on wartime aerial photographs on Colomb Road, Gorleston. The tank is one of several located in the area for the emergency use of fire fighters during bombing raids. The positioning of water tanks within areas of bomb damage occurs elsewhere in Gorleston, see NHER 42271.

Two areas of World War Two bomb damage and a later emergency water supply tank are visible on wartime aerial photographs on Colomb Road, Gorleston (S1). The site is centred on TG 5242 0483. On May 13th 1941 Colomb Raod was bombed (S2: p37) and number 15 took a direct hit. The bomb damage at TG 5247 0482 corresponds with this event . A further area of bomb damage is visible at TG 5237 0484 (41 to 43 Colomb Road). In July 1944 an emergency water tank was placed within this area of disturbed ground. The water tank is visible as an extent structure, measuring 7m in diameter. It is one of several tanks located within the area for the emergency use of fire fighters during bombing raids. The positioning of water tanks within areas of bomb damage occurs elsewhere in Gorleston, see NHER 42271.
