Map

January 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of a possible late Saxon to medieval saltern mound are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These earthworks are centred on TG 4831 0964 in an area of former marshland. An irregular mound is present on a roughly north to south axis. It measures up to 1008m long by 30m wide. The western side of the mound appears to be cut by an extant drainage ditch. Its eastern side abutted a large an irregular natural pond (not mapped). It is likely that this mound is a saltern mound of probable late Saxon to medieval date. The field had been ploughed and the earthworks levelled by 1970 (S3). A large group of saltern mound earthworks is present 100m to the southwest (NHER 25151).
